WOOD REMAINS SCORELESS AFTER THREE GAMES

Newcastle United striker Chris Wood was not amongst the goals as the Magpies come from behind to beat Everton 3-1 at home in a Premier League clash played at the St. James Park earlier this week. The New Zealand star has struggled for form in front of goal since his transfer to Newcastle United last month. The New Zealand international was one of the five players signed by the Magpies during last month’s winter transfer window. Newcastle United spent the most money in the winter transfer window amongst the clubs on the European football scene.

New Zealand national team star Wood left Burnley to join Newcastle United in their battle for Premier League survival. The Magpies paid the £25m release clause to take the ex-Leicester City and Leeds United from the Clarets. Dutchman WoutWeghorst has since been signed by Burnley from German Bundesliga club VFL Wolfsburg as the replacement for Wood. Burnley paid around £15m for the Dutch national team player.

Wood made his Newcastle United debut during the home game against Watford. He didn’tscore as the game between the relegation battlers ended in a 1-1 draw. There are a lot of teams in the relegation battle as far as the Premier League log is concerned. Apart from the duo of Watford and Newcastle United, Everton, Norwich City and Burnley are also in the keenly contested race to avoid the drop at the end of the season.

In the second game for Chris Wood in a Newcastle United shirt, Newcastle United secured only their second league win of the season via a 1-0 away victory over Leeds United. English midfielder JonjoShelvey scored the only goal of the game via a second half free-kick. New Zealand international Wood made it three games without a goal in the black and white of Newcastle United after the 3-1 home win over Everton on Tuesday.
