PREMIER LEAGUE: BURNLEY LOSE AGAIN

Burnley have made a poor start to the new Premier League season after they made it two defeats from two games at Liverpool in the early kick-off on Saturday. The current struggle from the Clarets is similar to what was obtainable last season but they were able to recover well to seal their Premier League status at the end of last season. Burnley finished the season in a safe place having secured the safety with a few games left to play.

New Zealand striker Chris Wood was the leading goalscorer for Burnley last season but he has not been able to find the back of the net. The Clarets have scored just once in 180 minutes of Premier League football this season and that came from English centre back James Tarkowski. He gave Burnley the lead in their Premier League opener at home to Brighton and Hove Albion. In the end, Brighton scored two goals to win the game 2-1 with Argentine player Alexis Mac Allister coming off the bench to score the winning goal.

The loss at home to the Seagulls preceded the Liverpool game which ended in a 2-0 defeat. New Zealand national team star Wooddidn’t find the back of the net in both games. As a matter of fact, the New Zealand striker hardly had any chance against a well marshalled Liverpool defence before being subbed off for Jay Rodriguez in the final quarter of the Premier League clash.

Liverpool have showed their title credentials this season with two straight victories. The Reds beat Burnley 2-0 with goals from Portuguese international Diogo Jota and Senegalese player Sadio Mane in each half to make it two wins from two games. The Merseyside giants had beaten Norwich City in their first game this season. Jota was on target in a 3-0 away win alongside both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
